Authors
A body of work enters the public domain by a date, not by an opinion. Here is each author's.
Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz
Mexico, 1648–1695. Hieronymite nun, poet, and the sharpest mind of the Spanish American baroque. She argued theology with bishops and lost her library for it. Her work has been in the public domain worldwide for centuries.
Emily Dickinson
United States, 1830–1886. Fewer than a dozen poems published in her lifetime; nearly eighteen hundred left hand-sewn into little booklets. Her work is in the public domain worldwide.
Rubén Darío
Nicaragua, 1867–1916. The poet who changed the ear of the Spanish language. Founder of modernismo, tireless traveller, dead at forty-nine. His work is in the public domain.
